Craps is one of the most recognizable games played in a casino because of the distinctive 
green felt table the game is famous for, even though most people don’t know the rules of the game. Craps, also called Bank Craps or Casino Craps, is a dice game played on a specific type of table with raised edges that players bounce dice off of and make bets on where the dice will land on the table.
While a craps table can fit up to 20 different people, only one person can throw the dice at a time. The player who is throwing the dice is called the shooter. Other players can bet on the outcome of the shooter’s dice throw. The casino staff member that runs the craps table is called the stick man.
The game of craps uses two six sided dice that have a different number of spots on each side, from one to six. When played in a casino, the dice used in craps are very carefully weighed and measured to make sure they are as up to casino regulations. Craps dice may also be changed out frequently by casino staff, and many casinos have rules about how players handle the dice.
When throwing the dice, also called shooting, the shooter must hit the raised walls at the opposite end of the table from where he or she is standing. If one or more of the dice leaves the table, they must be inspected by the stick man before they can be used in the game again. The shooter can only handle the dice with one hand while playing Craps.
Before the round begins, the stick man usually presents the player throwing the dice, the shooter, with several pairs of dice, and the shooter chooses one pair. Once the shooter chooses their dice and the players make their bets, the round begins. Players can place minimum bets on a part of the table called the Pass Line or the Don’t Pass Line. These bets are sometimes referred to as right bets and wrong bets.
In craps, the shooter begins the round by throwing the dice in what is called a Come Out roll. If the dice land on a two, three or twelve on the Come Out roll, then the round is over and players lose their Pass Line bets. This is where the name gets its name. A roll of seven or eleven means Pass Line bets win. The shooter continues to roll until a four, five, six, eight, nine or ten is hit, then this number becomes the Point. On the next roll, the shooter must roll this point number for the Pass Line bets to win. If the shooter rolls a seven, then the round is over.
After one shooter throws the dice and the outcome is decided, the round is over. Play then moves counterclockwise around the table. If another player does not want to be the shooter, they may bet on the outcome of the dice throw. Betting in the game of craps is based on where the dice land on the table. The shooter must bet the minimum amount set by the casino.
